I'm not interested in gogo bars or bars where you can see only foreigners.
Something for middle/upper Thai classWhat is the best Thai-oriented bar in Pattaya?
Man, I know where you're coming from. I've been to Thailand many times and would love to find a bar for local Thais.
Unfortunately bars in Thailand typically aren't for Thais. Thais typically do their drinking at restaurants. The idea of a bar is a more western concept. In fact - and this sounds crazy but it's true - up until recently it technically wasn't illegal for single women to visit bars. Bars were thought of as places of ill-repute.
Now, thanks to the influx of Westerners you can find pubs around and a lot of Thai people enjoy going there, but they're still mainly an outpost for Westerners.
Anyway, good luck and if you find something like that let me know, cause I still haven't found anything like that. What is the best Thai-oriented bar in Pattaya?
To reply to yours and 12 answer about bars. Lots of Thais go to Karaoke bars. What is the best Thai-oriented bar in Pattaya?
You are 100% correct Khun Bob...
But to add another point....and my be generalising here but...on the whole Thai;s dont want you in their "bars" either unless you are with a Thai...
Done this a few times with collegues and always was made to feel a little uncomfortable.....
Edit
Absolute
Firstly I am not American, I work for a multinational in Thailand and have done so for the last 7 years....
I am sure my Thai wife would be interested to know I bought a mail order bride and had it delivered to the US, seeing as I dont live in the US..!!!
You might find some places in bkk that are mostly music venues with food and a beer hall type atmosphere.. Tewan Dang on klong tan [ there are 2 such places there - one w/Isaan music and one with what Thai call songs for life which is more like rock ] - years ago, you never would see a farang in these places - now, I am sure you will see some but predominantly thai, ltting their hair down and having fun.. there are others as well, scattered about the city - Tewan Dang, Long Beir Yoleman [ german] is on palan saam and a bit more upscae than the other places mentioned... hope this helps. sorry - no ideas for pattaya but if you want things Thai, why be in Pattaya?
but Pattaya is not really a Thai town - it is a place invented for entertain farang, not thai - they go there to work..
