The points are just bragging rights. Sometimes

Yahoo will offer prizes. The more points you have the better the prize. To answer the first part of your

question: I do have better things to do but I get on here to waste time just like you. Thanks for the 2 points!Do some of you people have nothing better to do than answer peoples dumb questions? What are the points for?
Some of us just like to answer people's questions to be helpful. Some like the points. Some like to aggravate folks. It takes ALL kinds on here.

Points promote participation. They allow you to ask, answer, vote even more! To be able to brag some. Last December, we did get stuff if we signed up, depending on our levels, like coffee mugs, sweaters, hats.
